The talented and beautiful Priyanka Chopra Jonas has recently gotten herself into the restaurant game. Her latest project Sona, opened its doors in New York City at the end of March this year and it has a stunning interior and food we wish we could taste through our phones. In collaboration with restauranteurs David Rabin and Maneesh Goyal, Priyanka’s much-hyped fine dining restaurant serves Indian food in a stylish space in Gramercy. The photos that have been shared online have us dreaming of the border opening and hopping on a flight to NY.

The name Sona, meaning ‘gold’ in Hindi was thought of by her husband, Nick Jonas, as he supposedly heard that word a lot as the celebrity couple planned their wedding. Looking inside the restaurant you are immediately reminded of the grandeur of the Indian culture. Subtle gold, black and white hues allow for a modern yet minimalist look while miniature lamps upholstered with Indian fabric on every table create a warm and inviting space.
In addition to dining, Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s restaurant includes a stunning lilac marble-topped bar with elevated seating. Furthermore, SONA offers a private dining area called Mimi’s that can host 8-30 guests.
“SONA is the very embodiment of timeless India and the flavours I grew up with,” Priyanka said in an Instagram post announcing the project. Like the stunning design, the food at her new restaurant intends to be unexpected.
Head Chef Hari Nayak has been sharing sneak peeks of the cuisine on his Instagram and the menu seems to be quite expansive. The dishes do not focus on any particular region of India but instead combine all aspects of the culture. Here you will find dishes like Bengali Mustard Tofu with squash blossom pakora, Octopus Ghee Roast with chilli tamarind sauce and Floyd’s Goan Fish Curry with coconut clam broth, kokum, and red rice. The last dish is named for Floyd Cardoz, the groundbreaking Indian chef who passed away from COVID-19 last year. The menu even comes equipped with a glossary of common Indian cuisine terms.
Priyanka shared her excitement for the new restaurant on her Instagram: “What started as a simple craving for great Indian food has become this labour of love, and I can’t wait to welcome you all in, and for you to experience timeless India in the heart of NYC!”
