What is Amanemu?
Amanemu is a luxury hotel, inspired by the sensibilities of traditional ryokan inns. It lies nestled in the tree-strewn hills of the Ise-Shima region, just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Ago Bay. At its core, Amanemu is designed to be a destination for relaxation. That said, it’s just as capable of satisfying adventurous customers, or those looking to immerse themselves in the splendors of Japanese culture. Whatever you’re hoping to get out of your vacation, Amanemu will happily provide it.
What is there to experience?
There’s no shortage of reasons to visit Amanemu. If you’re looking to unwind, a dip in their mineral-rich hot springs will do the trick. Alternatively, you can embark on a spa journey tailored to your needs. From massages to aromatherapy, they’ve got it all. For history buffs, there are ancient trails to trek, and opportunities to meet the ama – a community of all-female free-divers that inhabit the area. Did we mention they’ve got a menu chock full of mouthwatering local seafood, which you can wash down with top-quality sake? What’s not to love?
Ise-Shima was once the proverbial breadbasket of the imperial court. Nowadays, its abundance goes to serving Amanemu’s guests. Breakfast and lunch feature fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and dinners are designed to highlight the flavors of the season. Imagine: washing down wagyu and abalone with hand-crafted cocktails, or one of many fine teas. Doesn’t that sound like total bliss? Just the thought is enough to make stomachs growl, and mouths water.
What are accommodations like?
Rooms at Amanemu come in two flavors: suites and villas. The suites, twenty-four in all, are elegant in their simplicity, with layouts inspired by minka – homes for artisans, farmers, and merchants. To boot, they boast 1,065 square feet of space, as well as private onsens, making them perfect for lone guests. Villas, meanwhile, come with two bedrooms, and a whopping 3,940 square feet of space. Not to mention their private kitchens, powder rooms, and easy access to the surrounding landscape. If you’re craving a gorgeous view of the bay, or a canopy of trees above your outdoor bath, a villa is the way to go.
How do you get there?
First, you’ll want to touch down in Nagoya, the capital of Aichi Prefecture. From there, a quick two-hour train ride will bring you to Amanemu’s door. Alternatively, you can embark on a helicopter ride to arrive in approximately half an hour. However you make the trip, their multilingual support team is happy to assist, whether by streamlining your journey or helping you book a room.
