Siwa Oasis, Egypt
Firstly, I’d like to say that Siwa Oasis is not the destination for travellers looking for a luxurious vacation. In fact, it’s the perfect isolation destination! It’s a secluded and small community 600km from the capital city of Cairo. Siwa Oasis is in the middle of the Western Desert and follows close to Libya’s border. It’s a place to come to enjoy the silence and isolated vibes!
Salt Lakes
Located at the foot of the Siwa mountain, these salt lakes are called Al-Tibtah. The hundreds of salt lakes or, salt pools are part of the Zeitoun Lake. The lakes are over 95% salt solely because of a nearby salt mine. They’re approximately 4 metres deep and have hot and cold water options! If you’re not a strong swimmer, don’t worry because the levels of salt in the waters make it impossible to drown! You can float around just like the Dead Sea!
The people from Siwa Oasis traditionally used the salt for building homes, sharpening and shaping their tools and finally, within lamps. Nowadays, you can buy a salt lamp anywhere! They’re aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly known to produce healing energy with the heat of the light source!

Along the way, there are a few military checkpoints so make sure you always have your passport in hand. Lastly, always travel with cash since the ATM’s aren’t always reliable!
