Remember the days where you had a quick 3-day trip planned to visit New York, or to stay by Niagara-On-The-Lake and explore your favourite wines alongside the vineyards? It’s definitely a bittersweet feeling to reminisce on those memories but in the meantime start daydreaming and manifesting all your future travel destinations! An important part of planning a short trip is what you chose to pack on your carry-on! Whether it be to fly or drive, it’s always more convenient to pack only what you need. If you’re an over-packer and think you need to travel with everything you own, you don’t! Here is how to pack only the essentials in your carry-on for a short trip!

The Bag
Finding the right travel bag is the first step in this essentials venture. This bag should be able to carry everything you need, while staying both neat and organized! It should have visible pockets making it easy to grab any important documents and have just the perfect amount of space to carry your skincare/body products, clothing, electronics and of course a snack or two! There is a wide variety of bag options you have to chose from and its important to pick the one that best suits you!

Clothing
Pre-planning clothing items is a critical part in travelling with a carry-on! Whether it be a leisure trip, or heading out on a summer venture with friends, you’ll only need a few items! The basics are obvious, a few pairs of underwear and socks, but when it comes to outfits, it all depends on your upcoming events! Oh, and always make sure to check the weather!
When it comes to outdoor activities you want to be dressed comfortably and that means packing a set of active shorts, leggings, a sports bra, t-shirt and hoodie!
My Picks
Adidas: Men’s Essentials Tie-Dyed Inspirational Shorts
Gymshark: Training Mesh Pocket Leggings
When it comes to fancier events such as dinners or a picnic by the beach, it’s always nice to pack a nice button down or a free-flowing summer dress!
My Picks
Zara: Men’s Abstract Print Shirt
Dynamite: Bea Smocked Maxi Dress
Personal Hygiene Products
Travel size bottles are your new best friend when it comes to travelling light! There is no room to be hauling around your 1L shampoo bottle, and there is definitely no space for all your skincare products. Look at your daily routine and pick out what is essential to you. This could be your toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, hair brush, facial cleanser, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, body lotion, deodorant and spray! It’s impossible for me to tell you what to pack since this list is personalized and should be 100% adjusted to any must-haves in your routine!
My Picks
Elle’s Boutique: Ultimate Travel 11 Piece Set
Kiehl’s: Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30
Electronics & Other Items
These items are a bit more personalized and really cater to your own likes! When I travel I always ensure I have a notebook for some journaling, a good book, headphones, a camera, water bottle and gum!
A few other items could be:
- A light scarf/small blanket to stay comfy during the ride
- Sunglasses
- Laptop
- Umbrella
- Hat
- Masks – since now they’re a must!
- Portable charger
- Small first-aid kit
The possibilities are endless and I’d love to know what you’d pack as an essential in your carry-on!
