If you ask me, the plate that a dish is served on is nearly as important as the dish itself. Dinnerware and tableware are such hot commodities these days because we really do eat with our eyes first. If you put even a little effort into what the final product looks like on the table, it’s a good sign that the actual meal will probably taste pretty good because if you worked hard on just the presentation, imagine the effort that was put into the food. Obviously, we’re not dining out at restaurants these days but it is possible to create restaurant-quality dishes at home and that all starts with the dinnerware.
Fable is a Canadian brand that’s based in Vancouver with the mindset of being a direct-to-consumer business with a focus on quality craftsmanship and ethical business practices. All of the brand’s products are sustainably produced in Portugal by local artisans who share the brand’s ethical practices. Fable wants gorgeous dinnerware and tableware to be accessible for everyone and that’s why they cut out the middleman so that everyone can buy their products and enjoy special moments.
I recently had the chance to test out some of Fable’s most popular dinnerware products and let me just say this. They’re everything I thought they’d be and more. I had seen and heard lots about Fable via social media but I’m a born skeptic so I needed to get my hands on them to really see what the deal was.
The plates are durable and they clean up beautifully (dishwasher friendly, yay!) but they also look stunning when presented on the table. I received the side plates, dinner plates, and cereal bowls all in speckled white and I’m in actual love with them. Yes, I’m in love with my plates. I was worried that they would be fragile but they’re sturdy and have a nice weight to them which I really enjoy, plus they’re just so freaking chic. They even make boxed mac and cheese look Instagram-worthy.
Another thing I absolutely love about Fable is that you’re not forced to buy a whole set if one dish breaks which, let’s be honest, is very likely in my case. With the brand’s lifetime guarentee, if you need a replacement for a single dish, they’ll send it to you at the price of cost so that you can make your set whole again as if nothing ever happened.

Congrats on all of Fable’s success! What is it about Fable that sets the brand apart from other dinnerware/home brands?
Thank you! We pride ourselves on the customer’s journey. From our research we’ve discovered that people find creating a cohesive space frustrating and overwhelming. Fable aims to make the experience of upgrading your home a seamless, more enjoyable process and provide our customer with options outside of the traditional tableware retailers. By creating pieces that are intentionally designed to be timeless (and without the unnecessary price markups), picking pieces that will look amazing in your home is easy. All of our products also have a creation story. This story is something we love to highlight and share because we hope these stories are shared around the dinner table as well.
Fable is quite transparent about sustainability and pricing, why did you feel it was important to be so upfront with consumers?
Sustainability and ethical product creation have always been important to me and the founders of Fable. We knew when we launched Fable that this would be a top priority for us. Fortunately, we find that our consumers have similar desires and values. In the sustainable products market, consumers demand the details from the brands they incorporate into their everyday lives. For this reason, it was important for us that Fable be transparent – from our business practices to the creation process down to our pricing model. We want to be as honest with our customers as much as possible.
What’s your advice to those looking to get into the homeware industry?
The homeware space is very exciting and it feels extra special to have something that you have created be a small part of someone else’s daily rituals. My advice would be to build something that solves a problem. Find something in your home or your life that bugs you or could be better. Then ask everyone you know if that is also a problem they face. Once you understand the problem you are solving it makes the entire process of creating something 100x faster.
What can we expect from Fable in 2021? Any sneak peeks you can share?
Do we ever! Earlier this month we released a new collection of ceramics in Dove Grey and are working on some beautiful new colourways that our customers can expect in 2021. Most recently, we launched Serving Platters in our hero colourways Speckled White and Blush Pink, and now Dove Grey. And without giving too much away, we are also looking at ways we can expand Fable beyond tableware and really tap into different moments spent in the home. Think game-night, brunch, cocktail hour and picnics – those quality moments spent together over food and drink. 2021 will be a big year for us so our customers can look forward to some very exciting launches. We cannot wait to share what Fable has coming down the pipeline!
