It’s no secret that we’re all experiencing the most intense wanderlust of our lives and longing for an escape. International sun destinations are sadly but understandably off the menu for Canadians but the good news is that Airbnb’s are always available. Even though it’s recommended to stay at home and not leave your region, there are some here in Ontario that will make you feel like you’re thousands of miles away. There’s one Ontario Airbnb in Essex County that’s gone viral thanks to one TikTok video and due to the popularity generated, it’s booked out until 2022!

Toronto travel and food blogger Solmaz of @thecuriouscreature ventured up to Oxley to experience the floating wine barrel Airbnb and it looks just as picturesque as it sounds. The Wine Lovers’ Getaway is run by a husband and wife team, Beth and Ben and no detail has been overlooked. In addition to the stunning scenery and gorgeous sunset, there’s an outdoor shower, floating tiki bar, and even a flatscreen TV to enjoy.
Solmaz told WanderEater in an email, “Our stay at this gem in the heart of Lake Erie North Shore wine country is a travel memory I’ll never forget. As a wine lover who’s always on the hunt for unique accommodations, I truly felt like I hit the Airbnb jackpot! Beyond the location and incredible host, it’s the details that make this experience unforgettable. Think: a tiki bar draped with twinkly lights, a sunset paddle on the creek (yup, you get a rowboat too) and a beautiful panoramic window that overlooks the water. It was pure magic.”
To document her experience at this one-of-a-kind Airbnb, Solmaz posted a quick and fun video on TikTok and to date, it’s received over 535K views and has been shared nearly 12,000 times and the buzz isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

“When I posted my TikTok I barely had any followers so I wasn’t sure if anyone would even see the video. But I knew if they did, they would fall in love with the concept because it’s so unique. What I could’ve never predicted was how quickly people booked a stay! The owner had no idea I was going to post the video so she was also shocked by the response and sent me a very heartwarming note. I know those who scored a booking will love it and will also explore the area so hopefully this gives a boost to the other businesses and wineries in the region too!”
It’s safe to say that the power of social media is real and that if one local business can experience this much success from a short TikTok video, then there really is hope for others out there too.
