If you’re in the market for a new spirit – and one with a solid backstory – LOOP Mission has a solution with the release of the world’s most sustainable gin. More than a quality crisp and dry gin, it’s a solution to food waste.
“We co-founded LOOP Mission to give a second life to the outcasts of the food industry,” said David Côté, cofounder LOOP Mission.

LOOP Mission
The Ontario-based food waste-fighting giant started off making cold-pressed juices made with perfectly imperfect fruits and vegetables before moving into beer made with day-old bread. Then, a phone call from a major potato chip company ultimately resulted in the celebrated new LOOP Mission’s Lime and Ginger Gin.
Loop Mission partnered with chip factory powerhouse Krispy Kernels and a local distillery to produce the gin from leftover potato cuttings. The scrapped spuds are distilled into gin before cold-pressed juice from rescued lime and ginger is added. A total of six potatoes are rescued per bottle.
“Everyone loves a good potato chip but making so many creates a lot of excess potato cuttings,” said Côté. “When we first got the call from Krispy Kernels factory and learned how many potato cuttings was discarded each day, we would never have imagined that our gin would become one of the best-selling gin in eastern Canada.”
Perfect for cocktails, LOOP’s lime ginger gin offers a subtle earthiness of the resulting potato alcohol and characteristic flavour of juniper that is contrasted by the bite of fresh ginger root and tang of lime. If it sounds refreshing, it is.
The gin is also great on the rocks or with tonic water.
If beer is more your thing, LOOP Mission offers everything from clementine and grapefruit radlers to hoppy and sour beers. The company also produces smoothies and probiotic sodas.
LOOP Mission remains as important as ever. More than one-third of food is currently wasted worldwide. To date, LOOP has rescued 5300 tons of fruits and vegetables, saved 410 million litres of water, and rescued 1.4 million splices of bread.
LOOP gin is available across Ontario for $38.85.
