If it’s a culinary expedition that you’re after, you’ll want to head to British Columbia, specifically Vancouver, as soon as possible. That’s because the new highly-anticipated Miantiao is opening on June 17 and the restaurant, located inside the stunning Shangri-La Hotel, is seamlessly blending Chinese and Italian cuisines to create a unique dining experience. Miantiao takes the place of MARKET by Jean-Georges which closed at the end of 2019.
Miantiao
The restaurant describes itself as “Italian cuisine elevated with Chinese sensibilities, and Chinese gastronomy uplifted by the elegant simplicity of Italian cuisine” and the menu truly speaks volumes.

Highlights from the dinner menu include Burrata that’s served alongside XO sauce and scallion pancakes, Merluzzo Nero, a sablefish, cured pork, olive, borlotti bean dish and last but certainly not least, the four-course Aged Whole Duck experience should not be overlooked. The culinary team, led by Executive Chef Tret Jordan “will transport guests on a stimulating journey for the senses and the culinary ties that bind both countries.”
What’s to Drink?
Don’t think we forgot the drinks either because it’s Gianluigi Bosco who has expertly designed a list of signature cocktails that are sure to please. If wine is more your style, then this is the place to be because the selection is off the charts. The restaurant will house everything from lesser-known bottles to celebrated styles coming from local BC vineyards. Plus they’re all handpicked to pair with the menu.
Miantiao is just the latest member of the growing Kitchen Table Restaurants family and it’s no doubt that it’ll become a mainstay among locals and travellers who visit the hotel.
