Plant-based diets are growing popular by the minute. In the past, it has been difficult to find the perfect place to dine out and find a delicious vegan/vegetarian menu. Many restaurants were weary of the dietary restrictions and even if the option was there, it often not inspiring or just a salad. Now, as the diet has proven to be much healthier and environmentally conscious, many restaurants have opened up with only vegan/vegetarian + gluten-free options on the menu. Not only has the variety increased, but the dishes themselves actually taste, you know, good. While there are plant-based restaurants all over Canada and the world for that matter, Vancouver has undoubtedly become a hotspot for many of these plant-based restaurants and here are some of our favourites.
Vegan Cave Cafe
Vegan Cave Cafe is definitely one of the best vegan restaurants in Vancouver. They have many outstanding reviews from satisfied customers and certainly deserve it. Even those who are not vegan/vegetarian enjoy the restaurant as much as any other place and always come back for more. Popular dishes include the Freaky Greeky Pizza and Presto Prana Pizza.
Virtuous Pie
Virtuous Pie is certainly a student favourite when it comes to plant-based pizza. Located near the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, the restaurant serves a variety of combinations of toppings including their Ultraviolet Pizza and Italian Eggplant Pizza. They also have plant-based ice cream to end the meal on a refreshing note.
The Acorn Restaurant
The Acorn Restaurant is an ambitious restaurant serving delicious vegan/vegetarian food and a bar that is opened until late at night all rolled all into one. Their menu is internationally recognized and contains award-winning dishes including their Shiitake. They offer original cocktails made directly from the bar to enjoy with your meal.
CHOMP Vegan Eatery
CHOMP Vegan Eatery specializes in creating colourful bowls filled with organic and gluten-free mains with additional side dishes. This has been a go-to brunch place for many local Vancouverites for generations and, hopefully, for more to come. Some of their most popular dishes include the East Side Burger and their Rollercoaster Bowl.
Lotus Seed Cafe
Lotus Seed Cafe offers a wide variety of health-conscious Asian cuisines. Their menu ranges all the way from breakfast foods to plates and bowls. All their dishes can be enjoyed at any time of day. Some of their most popular dishes include the Thai Curry, Pineapple Express Burger and their baked spring rolls.
Kokomo
Even made with only plant-based ingredients, comfort food can still sometimes be a little too hefty. If that is the case, head over to Kokomo to experience some light and healthy colourful bowls. They are most well-known for their Delightful Coastal Bowl, their Coastal Macro bowl and the traditional Caeser Salad.
Kind Cafe
Kind Cafe is a zero-waste and plant-based restaurant. They have a BYO (bring your own) cup/container policy if you are planning on going for take-out. While being so environmentally conscious, their food is also delicious. Some of their most popular dishes include the Carrot Lox Burger and the Mediterranean Bowl.
MeeT
MeeT is the go-to place for vegan comfort food. They are most well-known for their popular Double-Double Burger which is stacked with double coconut bacon and double cheese. Their delicious menu and Instagrammable aesthetic have certainly made it a must-visit even if you aren’t following the plant-based diet.
Chau Veggie Express
Many Asian cuisines usually require meat to achieve the savoury taste that it has. Even so, Chau Veggie Express remarkably attains the same fragrant taste with only plant-based ingredients. They offer a variety of dishes including warm soups, bowls and crispy rolls. Their most popular menu includes the Golden Temple Soup and the Rickety Rickshaw Bowl.
Planetary Burger
Have you ever been to McDonald’s or Burger King and have been utterly disappointed by the lack of plant-based burgers? Planetary Burger is the perfect place if this has ever happened to you. The restaurant offers various sizes of plant-based burgers and additional options for vegan poutine, fries and milkshakes,
