Throughout the decades, kitchen styles have gone through a rollercoaster of different styles. In the 70s we saw an explosion of kitchen colour, mixed in with the most obnoxious wallpaper selections. In the 90s, modernism came to light while farm-house styles also became more prominent. Now in 2021, kitchen styles are all over the place and I’m not mad about it.
The kitchen is truly a place for all things. I love my kitchen and it’s typically where I start and end my day. But besides indulging in all things food, what’s even more exciting is the vibe and style my kitchen gives off. There are so many ways to design and style a kitchen that suits you.
Here are a few trends that might just catch your eye

All Things Green
This has surprisingly been the colour of choice for plenty of modern kitchens. Many people find green to be a relaxing colour because it symbolizes nature, vitality, life and growth. With this new trend, people are choosing to use green as their cabinet colour, but you can also be creative by using it as an accent wall, in your dish-wear or as your bar and table chairs. Although, the easiest and most affordable way to play with green in your kitchen is to purchase a few indoor plants!
Plants, Plants & More Plants
The best way to add plants to your kitchen space is by placing them on a window ledge, countertop, or if hanging, on a shelf or on-top of the kitchen cabinet. This is a great way to add to the feeling of nature and relaxation while you cook up your favourite meal!
Peace Lillies, Chinese Evergreen, Spider Plant and Pothos plants are all great options for your kitchen and styling them with a white or terra cotta pot will really make the green pop against your cabinets.
Wood & Wicker
Wood and wicker go perfectly together, and in a kitchen…you’ll never want to leave. Kitchen floors are now being replaced from old tile to beautiful, slick and smooth wood floors. Natural wood finishes are also being used as countertops, shelving systems and butcher blocks. And wicker materials are being used as table chairs and accent baskets.
Eye-Catching Kitchen Tiles
European kitchen influences are coming to North America and I have never been happier! These particular tiles are seen all throughout the many parts of Italy, Spain and Portugal. The original tiles are usually hand-painted and unique, but the ones here at home come in all sorts of styles, colours, and can be customizable for what you’re looking for. These styles can be a bit intimidating but it can really turn your kitchen into the main focal point of your home.
Bye Bye Stainless Steel, Hello Black & Gold!
Nowadays, it’s rare to find stainless steel hardware in any new, modern kitchen. There’s something about gold and wood mixed together that adds luxury while still keeping a simplistic and minimalist vibe. Using black hardware adds the right amount of sharpness to a boring, simple looking space. Whether it’s replacing your drawer nobs, light fixtures or kitchen faucet, this might be the small change your place needs!
