White Claw Master Distiller Andrès Faustinelli spent almost a decade researching and developing a new way to create the world’s first triple-wave filtered premium vodka. White Claw’s vodka is made with 100% single grain and distilled five times in columns with copper plates. White Claw Premium Vodka is Triple Wave Filtered —named for the use of immense pressure equal to three 30-foot waves — which has the same soothing effect on vodka that ocean waves have on stones and shells.
Filtered through activated carbon from charred coconut shells Master Distiller Andrès Faustinelli said he wanted to design a vodka to replicate the magic that happens in a Brown spirit over time. “It’s not about the cask and oak flavours but about a controlled oxidation that rounds out the alcohol over the years,” he says.
“We wanted to break conventions and we wanted to show that there is a better way for vodka. This is not a typical vodka story, this is a production design story that is challenging the expectations of how a vodka should taste and be enjoyed,” states Faustinelli. “Coconut Shells are not only more sustainable but they change the PH of the vodka, unleashing citrus notes and a profile that is more palatable and sessionable.” The final result is a minimal yet complex combination of aromas and sensations in the mouth and nose — subtle notes of citrus at first, then grain, then a velvety finish.
“I tried very different ways to get to this final concept that I was looking for and we ended up with a crazy process that finally landed on a small pressurized vessel that worked well, with the sole challenge that we could produce 3 litres of Vodka per shift! You know that you are innovating when you find out that there is no equipment designed for what you are trying to make… fast forward we had to engineer a machine that is absolutely unheard of in the spirit world,” shares Faustinelli. “It’s all about using Pressure in an unusual way, White Claw Vodka has the most complex vodka-producing process in the industry. “
Why their process is globally unique
The first-of-its-kind filtration process uses tremendous pressure equal to three 30-foot waves to create a vodka with distinctive taste, aroma, and smoothness “We created one of the most complex production processes of any vodka in the world to produce a vodka unlike any other,” explains Faustinelli.
White Claw took their most popular seltzer flavours – Mango, Black Cherry and Pineapple and made them into their first vodka flavours. “We wanted to bring consumers into a multidimensional full flavour experience through the flavours they love. Our White Claw Vodka flavours are fresh, juicy and if you close your eyes you can imagine that you are holding a whole fruit. Making flavours for a 5% ABV can is very hard and our vodkas bring the opportunity to showcase the quality that has been always behind White Claw since the very beginning. The art of making flavours is all around capturing the whole fruit experience,” he expresses.
