Not all heroes wear capes — or a goaltender’s mask for that matter. The past year and a half has taught us that coming together, giving back, and being there for each other during hard times really is what matters most. Paying it forward by doing simple gestures like holding the door or even picking up a perfect stranger’s coffee are beautiful ways to stay united as a community. During the COVID pandemic, we’ve seen how retailers, communities, and folks from all over have banded together to help support frontline workers, doctors, nurses, teachers, volunteers, and many other everyday heroes. Now, it’s one hometown hero’s turn. Amazon Canada has teamed up with Montreal Canadiens goaltender, Carey Price, his wife Angela, and local designer, Camille Charland Perez to gift Heather Sim, a student monitor, office clerk and the head volunteer for Breakfast Club of Canada (BCC) from LaSalle, Quebec, a makeover of her living room, bedroom and studio.
A Selfless Hero
Heather has been involved with BCC for more than 20 years and gets so much joy out of helping her students each day. However, her peers, friends and colleagues have noticed that she barely takes any time for herself. Working tirelessly and selflessly, Heather constantly is putting the well-being of others before of her own and her dedication and passion is palpable during her 12-hour workdays.

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Heather noticed that more and more students required nutrition since they couldn’t attend the Pierre-Rémy Breakfast Club. To help, Sim pivoted her program to provide the children with the food they needed directly to their homes. Her strength was made even clearer during her battle with cancer a few years ago and even while she was ill, Heather continued to care for the students with the support of BCC.
“I am blown away that I was selected for this surprise! As someone who likes things to be simple, and really has a minimal eye for design, this is more than I could have wished for,” said Sim. “I am overwhelmed with not only the makeover, but also being able to virtually meet my favourite Montreal Canadien, Carey Price. I will remember and cherish this experience every time I look at my newly decorated spaces!”
In recent months, Amazon Canada worked closely with the Prices and Camille Charland Perez to revamp three key rooms in Heather’s home. Camille included furniture and decor from local Canadian brands as well as the bigger name brands and it’s all available on Amazon Canada. Brands used range from local ones like Nathan James, SOJA&CO., and Little Bot, as well as more recognized ones like Samsung and Umbra.
“Heather is a true inspiration – she gives back to her community every day, without expecting anything in return. Alongside Amazon Canada, we recognize the hard work and dedication required to sustain programs like BCC, especially under the circumstances she has had to face,” said Carey Price.
“We are lucky to have three healthy kids and I feel better knowing people like Heather are taking care of students across the country. This home makeover is a small gesture compared to their important work,” stated Angela Price.
