Who doesn’t love a slice (or two) of good old-fashioned banana bread? Warm from the oven and slathered with an ungodly amount of butter that would make Chrissy Teigen proud. While there may be many recipes already circulating out there, I am confidently here to tell you that this old stand-by family recipe is the very best and is so simple that anyone could pull it off. Make this banana bread recipe however you like it by adding chopped walnuts, chocolate chips or just leave it as is and let the bananas do the talking. The more brown spots and speckles on your bananas the better so stockpile those overripe bananas in the freezer until you’re ready to make this delightful bread.

Here’s the only banana bread recipe you’ll ever need:
Serves: 4-6
Ingredients:
- ½ cups (125mL) butter
- 1 cup (250mL) granulated white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup (roughly 3 medium) mashed very ripe bananas
- 1 ¾ (425 mL) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp (5mL) baking soda
- ½ tsp (2mL) baking powder
- ½ tsp (2mL) salt
- 1 cup (250mL) chopped walnuts (optional)
- or ¾ cup (175mL) semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Method:
- Pre-heat oven to 350°F (180°C)
- Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until smooth. Add mashed bananas (hopefully yours are riper than mine were) and blend in.
- In a second bowl for the dry ingredients stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and nuts/chocolate chips.
- Add to wet mixture, stirring only until blended.
- Transfer to a loaf pan, either greased or lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the oven for 55-60 minutes, until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
- Let your banana bread sit for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove and let cool.
- The only thing left to do now is slice, butter and enjoy your homemade banana bread recipe!
