It’s no secret that Canada is a melting pot of cultures, especially when we’re talking about the culinary landscape. No matter the cuisine you’re craving, you’re bound to find options in more places than one. One of the latest concepts to be added to that roster is an Indian street food restaurant. There are whole varieties of flavour profiles to explore with that, which is what celebrity Chef Vikram Vij hopes to highlight with his newest dining spot.
Bombay Frankies
Chef Vij has partnered with Eat Up Canada for the venture, with the restaurant set to be established in Newmarket, Ontario. This will mark the first Canadian location for Bombay Frankies, which is set to specialise in frankie rolls. With its roots in Bombay, India, a frankie roll is a flatbread wrap that resembles a burrito. The filling is made up of an assortment of meat and vegetables, which are blended with Indian spices and sauces.
As is the case with many other cuisines in the country, the demand for Indian cuisine and dishes is also ever present. The menu for the fast casual restaurant will be curated and monitored by Chef Vij. Along with frankie rolls, customers can also expect other items salads, sides and frankie bowls.
As per the partnership with Eat Up Canada, the team is looking to open three to five locations in the first year, with the objective of even more in the coming years. Bombay Frankies is slated to open sometime in early September, at Yonge Street and Green Lane.
He also owns Vij’s, an Indian restaurant that has been a part of the British Colombia dining scene since 1994. It’s located at the 3106 Cambie Street in Vancouver.
