Not only does this ring true these days with the current COVID situation but even before the pandemic, some folks still don’t have enough to eat. It couldn’t be more true that giving back never tasted so good!
Don’t fret if you don’t live close enough to the GTA to score a pizza. You can celebrate National Pizza Day at home because we have some tips that come straight from the One Night Only Pizza owner, Luke on how to make your own Savour What’s Simple pizza.
Here’s How to Make your own Savour What’s Simple Pizza:
1. First and foremost use quality ingredients.
Your pizza will only be as good as the ingredients you put into making it. Always go for fresh, local and organic ingredients when you can.
2. Get a kitchen scale.
These are very inexpensive and make all the difference when measuring out the ingredient quantities in your dough. It is very important to use a scale so your dough can be measured in bakers percentages.
3. Turn your oven up as high as it goes.
Always bake your home pizza at the highest setting your oven will go. Pizza baked in pizza shops come out of very hot ovens as this helps with the “oven spring” crispness and the light and chewy dough we all love.
4. Add more water to your dough recipe.
Using a higher hydration dough will result in a lighter and better tasting crust. Love all the bubbles in your pizza crust? These come from a higher water content in the dough. While it may be harder to work with, the end result is totally worth it.
5. Let your dough cold ferment for a couple days.
This long, cold ferment will allow your dough to develop a deep beautiful flavor that’s instantly recognizable when you eat it. Let your dough cold ferment in the fridge for 24 to 72 hours.
6. Let the dough proof before making your pizza.
Allowing your dough balls to proof at room temperature allows the dough to relax and come up to temperature before baking. This will result in a lighter and balanced crust. Never put cold dough in a hot oven.
