We Canadians always feel a sense of pride when we see any type of filming taking place in our communities. Whether you live in Toronto, where shows like Sex/Life and The Queen’s Gambit were filmed, or you live in British Columbia where TV show Riverdale is filmed. Now Netflix hasn’t just chosen to film in Ontario but it’s gone a step further and is coming out with a design series all about the iconic and well-loved June Motel.
The series, Motel Makeover, follows the team behind the June Motel as they renovate and transform a boring roadside stop into a charming destination in Ontario’s popular Sauble Beach. This is the second June Motel location and the original one is situated in the oh-so-quaint Prince Edward County. Both locations are continuously popular during their open seasons and currently they’re both booked solid until September. Don’t worry if you can’t get in for a summer vacay, a fall getaway will be just as worth it!
In case you didn’t know the back story, The June Motel was founded by two best friends, April Brown and Sarah Sklash in 2016. The dynamic duo teamed up and quit their day jobs in Toronto to chase their dream and it’s been a mega success. The pair, who call themselves ‘moteliers’, said in a release, “We hope that watching us navigate the craziest year of our lives inspires you to take your own risks, dream even bigger and always remember to enjoy the ride,”
The series spans six episodes and takes viewers through all of the ups and downs that come with building a motel empire with your bestie, also during a pandemic no less. The June Motel Sauble Beach location officially opened back in September 2020 and the location boasts an indoor-outdoor restaurant, pool, and a wide selection of vacay packages that are too good to pass up.
Motel Makeover officially lands on Netflix on August 25 and we can’t wait to watch!
