Seoul has spent the past decade becoming one of the world’s most influential cities for food, fashion, beauty, design and culture. Now, its luxury travel scene is entering another chapter.
Aman has announced plans to open Aman Seoul, the ultra-luxury hospitality brand’s first property in South Korea. Set in Cheongdam in the heart of Gangnam, the forthcoming development will overlook the Han River and combine a hotel, branded residences and an exclusive Aman Club under one roof.
It is a significant vote of confidence in a city that has increasingly become a destination in its own right for international travellers, particularly those chasing everything from Korean dining and contemporary design to fashion, wellness and nightlife.
Why Seoul, and why now?
Aman’s arrival comes as South Korea’s cultural influence continues to stretch well beyond its borders.
The company specifically points to the country’s growing global reach across fashion, beauty, design, technology and contemporary culture, describing Seoul as one of Asia’s most dynamic markets.
For travellers, that shift has already been evident.
Seoul is no longer simply a stop on a larger East Asian itinerary. Its restaurant scene, luxury retail, art, architecture, cafés and neighbourhood culture have helped turn the Korean capital into a destination capable of sustaining a trip entirely on its own.
Aman entering the market suggests the very top end of global hospitality sees the same opportunity.

Aman is going straight to Cheongdam
Rather than retreating from the city, Aman Seoul is placing itself squarely inside it.
The property will be located in Cheongdam, one of Seoul’s most prestigious neighbourhoods and an established hub for luxury retail, design and contemporary culture. Aman describes the property as a retreat above the city, intended to offer the brand’s signature sense of privacy and calm while remaining connected to Seoul’s energy.
That positioning could prove especially interesting for Aman.
The brand built much of its reputation around secluded resorts and deeply private experiences. Aman Seoul, by comparison, will attempt to translate that same philosophy into one of the most energetic urban environments in Asia.
The architecture and interiors will draw from Korean spatial traditions, materials and craftsmanship, with separate entrances and arrival experiences planned for the hotel, residences and members-only Aman Club.
Food and wellness will play a major role
For travellers who increasingly build entire itineraries around where they eat and how they unwind, Aman Seoul is positioning both dining and wellness as central parts of the property.
A multi-floor wellness offering is planned, alongside a global food-and-beverage program that will include Aman’s own dining concepts. The private Aman Club will add its own pool, fitness facilities and social spaces for members and residence owners.
Specific restaurants, chefs and culinary concepts have not yet been announced, but that part of the project will be worth watching.
Seoul already has one of Asia’s most exciting food cultures, ranging from generations-old neighbourhood institutions and markets to contemporary Korean tasting menus and increasingly ambitious international concepts. Aman now has the opportunity to determine what its own culinary point of view looks like within that landscape.
More than another hotel opening
Perhaps the most telling part of Aman Seoul is that it isn’t being developed simply as a hotel.
The addition of private residences and an Aman Club reflects the hospitality industry’s continuing move toward lifestyle ecosystems in which travellers, residents and members move between accommodations, wellness, dining and social spaces.
Aman Seoul joins the brand’s existing urban properties in Tokyo, New York and Bangkok, while additional Aman projects are planned for Beverly Hills, Miami Beach, Dubai and Singapore.
Taken together, those destinations signal an evolution for a brand historically associated with remote escapes.
And Seoul feels like a particularly fitting place for the next chapter.
The city has already proven its ability to influence what the rest of the world eats, wears, watches and buys. Increasingly, it’s shaping where luxury travellers want to go, too.
Aman Seoul may be one hotel announcement, but its arrival says something much larger about Seoul’s place on the global travel map.
