It’s a good year for hotels in Toronto. Between the new W Hotel and renovated Park Hyatt, choosing where to stay has never been such a difficult decision. To make matters even trickier, an iconic and historic Toronto hotel has just been revamped and is opening in the fall. Gladstone Hotel has just announced its new name — Gladstone House — as well as the re-opening date and brand new look.
Situated in the West Queen West area of the city, Gladstone House has been a fixture on the scene for over 130 years. The new name pays homage to the original “Gladstone House” engravings which can be seen on the stone exterior of the building. The historic evolution was done together with Streetcar Development, Toronto’s premier developer of mid-rise condo buildings, Dream Unlimited Corp. which is one of Canada’s leading real estate companies.

Gladstone House will be reopening in September 2021.
“As one of the oldest operating hotels in Toronto, we are dedicated to paying homage to Gladstone’s rich history in the city and maintaining its status as a celebration of diversity in the West Queen West neighbourhood,” says Les Mallins, Founder & President of Streetcar Developments. “We have worked hard to ensure that we are telling the stories of the past and creating new one-of-a-kind experiences for the future as written by our guests. Gladstone House is the modern reimagination of a truly historical landmark.”
Gladstone House will continue to be a place that celebrates culture, art and diversity. A release sharing the news reads, “the hotel initiated a “Call for Submissions,” which attracted over 500 entries. A panel of jurors selected over 50 works, which will be part of an art installation in each of the hotel’s 55 guestrooms and surrounding public spaces. Ushering in a new look and feel, Gladstone House promises an unforgettable guest experience for locals and travellers.”
The design of the hotel is a testament to that because it’s clear from the historic and modern vibe as well as the restored exposed brick walls and innovative lighting applications that it’s a unique and elevated experience.
But what about the food?! Don’t worry because The Bistro and Bar will reopen in the fall for dining and cocktail service. Gladstone House will also be launching 3 new studios, featuring lifestyle, fitness and art programs and get ready because Drag Brunch will also be returning!
